Foncsi publishes a new “Tribune” by Jean Pariès, following the publication of the NTSB's preliminary report on the mid-air collision between a helicopter and a transport aircraft on January 19, 2025 at Washington's Reagan National Airport. This “Tribune” takes a detailed look at the event analysis and, above all, introduces the notion of “phantom safety syndrome”.

A few words about the author
Jean Pariès is an engineer from the Corps of Bridges, Waters and Forests (IPEF). He worked for 15 years at the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) before joining the Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA). From 2000 to 2004, he served as an associate research director at the CNRS. He then led the company Dédale, which specialized in industrial safety, for about twenty years. Jean Pariès was the Scientific Director of Icsi and Foncsi from 2020 to 2023. Since 2024, he has been a program leader at Foncsi, supporting the strategic analysis efforts of the “Foncsi 4” program.
